You can use this Customizing activity to assign the system message that the system is currently showing the user to other messages. These messages can be business-oriented for the user as well as easier to understand for customers. You can use alternative customer-oriented message for all message classes and the messages they contain for the user interfaces in the Web Dynpro application for Compensation Planning without making a modification. This includes:

  • Employee Compensation Profile
  • Compensation Information

For example, entries for the following parameters are required:

  • Namespace (such as SAP or customer-specific namespace)
  • Context name of the application
  • ECM_PROFILE for the Employee Compensation Profile application

  • ECM_TEAMVIEWER for the Compensation Information application

  • ECM_PLANNING for the Compensation Planning application

  • ECM_APPROVAL for the Compensation Approval application in the employee-based process (see also: process type)

  • ECM_COMPARE for comparing compensation from the Planning Overview application

  • Message class (technical name of the message class)
  • Message number
  • Message type (example: E for errors)
  • Message category (example: MANAGER (managers) or ADMIN (administrators))
A namespace must be assigned to this parameter. Therefore, the parameter must first be entered in the Maintenance View for FPM Message Type (FPM_VMSGCATEGORY).

Using the parameters entitled Context Name of Application and Message Category, alternative texts are displayed for the messages in the application or the messages can be hidden completely. In the standard system, no messages are shown to managers in the employee compensation profile.

In the standard system, for example, managers are not shown any system messages in the Web Dynpro application entitled Employee Compensation Profile (context name of application: ECM_PROFILE, message category: MANAGER).

Enter the required values.

If you want to replace the standard messages with customer-specific messages, proceed as follows:

  1. Start the Table Maintenance transaction (SM30) and, in the Maintenance View for FPM Message Type, make the required entries for managers or administrators for the message category in the customer-specific namespace.
  2. In the Maintenance View for FPM Message Mapper (FPM_V_MSG_MAPPER), make the entries necessary to allow message mapping. Use the customer-specific namespace.
Note
Note that entries from the customer-specific namespace overwrite entries from the SAP namespace. Customer-specific entries have priority over SAP entries.
  1. Start the required application and check that the changed messages display correctly.
