SAP E-Book

In this activity, you define number range groups with the appropriate number range intervals for the product type Material. To do this, you should have assigned the product type Material the reference product type Material for number assignment in the activity Specify Number Assignment Settings.

If you have also assigned the reference product type Material to other product types, the number range groups and number range intervals you define in this activity will also apply to these product types.

There are two types of number assignment:

  • Internal number assignment
The numbers are assigned by SAP. The number assigned is within the permitted internal number range interval.
  • External number assignment
The user assigns the numbers. The number assigned is within the permitted external number range interval. The interval limits for external number assignment can be specified numerically and alphanumerically.

You define number range intervals for groups you create. You assign each group one or more base categories.

If each group is assigned only one base category, this means an internal and external number range interval can be defined for each base category involved. If several base categories are assigned to one group, an internal and external number range interval can also be defined. However, in this case several base categories have the same number range intervals.

IMPORTANT
Be aware that you are maintaining an application table and not a Customizing table. You cannot transport this table between systems.

When this function is called, the system determines all base categories in the product hierarchy assigned to the application Product (activity Assign Category Hierarchies to Applications) for the product type Material.

  1. Choose Group -> Maintain.
  2. Choose Group -> Insert to create a new group and assign this group both an internal and external number range interval. Then choose Insert.
  3. Select the base categories you want to assign to this group, then select the group you created, and choose Edit -> Assign element group.
