In this step, you define the rate code and the follow-on codes. The rate code is a criterion used in pricing. You specify the rate code on the basic item screens for subscription orders and external delivery orders (subscriptions with another publisher).

You can use the rate code to make subscriptions cheaper in the initial purchase period than in subsequent periods.

The rate code is determined in a user exit (customer enhancement). You can use it to define the combination of field contents that affect the rate code and thus pricing for your own company.

You use your user exit to determine that the rate code is defined by the combination of the following values:

  • Publication
  • Service type (e.g. full subscription, Saturday subscription)
  • Price group
  • Sales source

Here, you could define the following price key for a full subscription to a daily newspaper that was taken out as a result of direct marketing:

  1. Enter the required rate code and the subsequent rate code.
  2. Enter the texts for the rate codes.
