In this step, you maintain postal package types and variants.

There are 4 postal package type variants for the package type 'Reduced charge package'. These distinguish between whether the package is sent within Europe, or worldwide and whether it is sent by land or airmail.

The standard system contains all postal package types and variants supported by the Media Sales and Distribution (IS-M/SD) system.

If you use other postal package types, you should create these using keys from the customer name range '9*'. You can assign any keys you wish for new postal package type variants.

  1. To create your own postal package types, please proceed as follows:
    1. Specify an alphanumeric key from the name range '9*'.
    2. Specify the bundling type for the postal package type.
    3. Enter the appropriate short and long text.
  2. To create new postal package type variants, please proceed as follows:
    1. Specify an alphanumeric key of up to 2 characters.
    2. Specify the key for the postal package type.
    3. Enter the appropriate short and long text.

If you create your own postal package types/variants, you should also perform the following activities:

  • Assign the new postal package types/variants to the appropriate delivery types (see Define delivery types).
  • Maintain the appropriate shipping schedules and shipping schedule variants.
  • Define bundling rules and, if necessary, container packing rules.
  • Maintain the closing date for shipping.
  • Create any new shipping document types you require.
  • Define the shipping document type usage with the new delivery types and shipping networks.
