SAP E-Book

You define the account determination settings for the flows in the parallel valuation areas. The account determination settings define the accounts to be used when the flows are posted to Financial Accounting.

Use

The system only posts flows in the parallel valuation areas if an update type is set as relevant for posting under Indicate Update Types as Relevant to Posting and if posting specifications have been defined for the corresponding update types in this configuration activity.

You can define different account determination settings for an update type, depending on the valuation area. You could, for example, assign posting specifications to an update type in valuation area 002 that differ from the posting specifications for the same update type in valuation area 003. Alternatively, you could use the same posting specifications, but assign different G/L accounts to a account symbol for each valuation area.

Prerequisites

  • You have defined the chart of accounts and all the required accounts in Financial Accounting.
  • You have defined all account assignment references under step Define Account Assignment References.
  • Under Define Account Symbols configuration activity, you define abstract account symbols.
  • You defined your update types.
  • You indicated the update types as relevant for posting.

Activities

Create or Change Settings

  1. When you call up this configuration activity, you first must select the relevant chart of accounts.
  2. Under Definition of Posting Specifications, you define different sets of posting specifications (debit and credit postings) using account symbols.
In this step, you can display and change the defined posting specifications or you can define additional posting specification by assigning document types, posting keys and account symbols for the posting specifications.
See following preconfigured settings:

  1. Choose New Entries.
  2. Enter an ID for the posting specification and a describing text.
  3. You should usually use the document type SA
  4. G/L Account Document.
  5. Choose the following for both the debit and credit posting:
- Posting Key (40 debit entry or 50 credit entry)
- Account Symbol
  1. Under Assignment of Update Types to Posting Specs, you assign the relevant posting specifications to the individual update types for all valuation areas.
If you assign a set of posting specifications to an update type, these postings specifications are applied for this update type in all valuation areas.
Two posting specifications can be defined for one update type with the help of the Payment Transaction indicator. This enables you to define both a subledger posting and a bank or G/L account posting for an update type.
Standard settings
The settings are preconfigured. You can change these settings to your needs.
  1. Define G/L accounts for each account symbol. You can make the G/L account assignment dependent on the following criteria: Valuation area, account assignment reference, and currency
In this configuration activity, you assign a G/L account to each account symbol. You use the account symbol Position to assign the G/L accounts to the various account assignment references. You can make generic entries for all valuation areas, account assignment references, and/or currencies.
If you combine the entries, you may theoretically have several valid entries (for example, one entry with the matching account assignment reference and one with the matching currency). In such cases, the system prioritizes the entries as follows:
  1. Valuation area
  2. Account assignment reference
  3. Currency
Notes
  • For the fields, Valuation Area, Account Assignment Reference, and Currency, you can make generic entries that apply for all valuation areas, all account assignment references, or all currencies. To do this, leave the corresponding field blank.

  • For bank postings, you can substitute each digit in the G/L account with a predefined number (0-9). This option could be used to select a bank clearing account, for example. To do so, enter all 10 characters for the G/L account number, and then use a '+' to mask the characters you do not want to be replaced by the predefined numbers.
