You use categories and types to classify the various member activities of a member in Loyalty Management. A category is grouping of similar types. For example, flight, points, point purchase are types of category earning potential.

These types appear when creating a new member activity in the Member Activity Types dialog.

Note: Once you have assigned a type to a category and used it to classify a member activity, you will not be able to change the assignment. This helps to avoid inconsistent type of past and future member activities.

In this Customizing activity, you can do the following:

  • Define categories and types. You can also define attributes that are specific to each type of member activity and whether mandatory or optional.
  • Activate/deactivate categories and types that are part of the standard delivery.
  • Specify channel/medium through which member activity can be created.
  • Use classification and subclassification for sales order integration and complaints integration.
  • Use your own activity type and assign the classification and subclassification to it.

Classification and subclassification are maintained for member activity types that make use of a backend process after the creation of a member activity. Classification and subclassification are used to change the process that is triggered after the creation of a member activity.

For example, an Interaction Center Agent triggers the change in tier for an existing membership. This created a member activity in the backend. The member activity attributes are then matched with the reward rules, and the tier is changed as defined in the process.

The user can change the process by defining a new member activity and assigning a classification and subclassification to it. The combination of a member activity, a classification, and a subclassification has to be unique. If a user defines his own activity with the same classification and subclassification as a SAP delivered standard activity and wants to use that activity, then the status of the standard activity has to be changed to Not Active, and the status of the user defined activity should be Active.

Specific attributes are defined for every “member activity type”. For example, in the airline industry, the attributes for activities of type Flight will deal with flight information. When a new member activity is created with the type “Flight”, the associated attributes such as Airline, Booking Class, Origin Airport, Destination Airport, Flight Category, and so on, will be editable on the member activity page.

When an attribute is assigned to an activity type, it has to be assigned as either “Mandatory” or “Optional” that determines whether the attribute is mandatory or optional on the member activity.

For example, for processing the member activity of type “Flight”, the attribute “Airline ID” is mandatory while the attribute “Flight Category” is optional. So, the activity can be processed even if the flight category is not specified, but the activity will remain in Contains Errors status if the Airline ID is not specified.

The standard delivery contains the following categories and types:

  • For the category Earning Potential, following are the types:
  • Flight: A member activity relevant to airlines.

  • Point Purchase: If a member is short of points to he or she can purchase the additional points.

  • Points: This activity directly provides points to the membership

  • Product: When a member purchases a certain product or service, for example, a car rental, he earns certain number of points.

  • Timed Execution: This activity is the result of a report scheduled to run in the background mode. The scheduling is based on the date/time specified in the rule type “scheduled reward rule”.20000003

  • Membership Registration: This activity provides registration bonus to the membership.

  • POS Accrual: A Point of Sale activity for accrual of points.

  • POS Transaction Amount: A Point of Sale activity for accrual of points based on the net amount received from a Point Of Sale transaction system.

  • Complaint Resolution: An Interaction Center Agent can use this to award points to a member.

  • Point Purchase Order: This activity is used to purchase points through a sales order.

  • Product Purchase Order: This activity is used to purchase product through a sales order.

  • For the category Consumption, following are the types:
  • Redemption: Members can redeem their points and receive products from a catalogue or receive a voucher.

  • Product Redeem: A member can use his or her earned points and buy products or services.

  • Points Return: Members can use their redeemable points to buy a product/service and “pay” with their points. In case they need to return the product, they will get their points back.

  • POS Redemption: A Point of Sale activity for redemption of points.

  • Redemption Order: This activity is used to redeem points through a sales order.

  • For the category Tier Management, following are the types:
  • Change Tier: When a member has accumulated a certain number of points (to be defined in the rules), he changes to a higher tier level.

  • Evaluate Tier: This activity evaluates if a tier is eligible for an upgrade/downgrade.

  • For the category Benefits, following are the types:
  • Add Benefit: When a member buys benefit through a sales order.

  • Consume Benefit: When a member consumes benefit.

  • Remove Benefit: When a member deletes a benefit from a sales order.

If you set the status of a category to “Not Active”, all activity types associated to the category will not be available for selection on the user interface when creating a member activity.
