Points are earned as a result of the member activity. The following point types are available:

  • Redeemable Points: Members can redeem them against services or products as defined in the loyalty program. Members can also buy additional points, if they have not earned sufficient points for redemption. Redeemable points can be subject to expiration after a certain date.
  • Qualifying points: Are used to determine the next tier level for a member when the current tier expires. Members cannot redeem these points. Qualifying points do not have an expiration date, but they expire with the tier.

When defining rules for the loyalty program, you can define which point type is earned for a member activity.

In this Customizing activity you can create point qualification types and specify the percentage of redeemable points and qualifying points awarded to a member activity. For example, you can define a new point qualification type and award 50 percent to the type #Qualifying#, which means for every 100 value points, you earn 50 qualifying points.

The new qualification type created will appear on the rule definition page for #Earn Points# and #Point Transactions#.

The calculation of the amount of qualifying points for a member activity is dependent on the qualification type. For each type, you can specify what percentage is to be allocated for the qualifying and redeemable type.

For example: A member earns 1000 points. Based on the qualification type he or she is allocated 80 percent of the 1000 points as redeemable points and 50 per cent of 1000 points as qualifying points. This results in 800 redeemable points and 500 qualifying points.

The two percentages need not sum up to 100 percent, and one of them can be zero. However, both cannot be zero.

The standard delivery contains the following qualification types:

  • Redeemable: only redeemable points are awarded for the member activity.
  • Qualifying: both redeemable points and qualifying points are awarded for the member activity.
  • Qualifying Only: only qualifying points are awarded for the member activity.

If you select status Active, the qualification type gets activated and can be used in the rules.

A member earns 1000 points. Based on the qualification type Q1 he or she is allocated 80 percent of the 1000 points as redeemable points and 70 per cent of 1000 points as qualifying points. This results in 800 redeemable points and 700 qualifying points.

A member earns 1000 points. Based on the qualification type Q2 he or she is allocated 100 percent of the 1000 points as redeemable points and 100 per cent of 1000 points as qualifying points. This results in 1000 redeemable points and 1000 qualifying points.
