To create a member activity, the member activity category ID and member activity type are required. As a result the member activity gets processed leading to earning or redemption of points.

Member activity can be created at the item level, at the header level or at both item and header levels.

For example, if a member buys three products, he or she can create member activities individually at the item level for the three products or create a single member activity at the header level for all three products.

If a member activity has to be maintained only at the item level, you have to delete Define Header Activity Types, and if a member activity has to be maintained only at the header level, you have to delete Define Item Activity Types. You have to use both Define Item Activity Types and Define Header Activity Types, if you want to maintain a member activity at both header and item levels.

The following member activity types are available as header activity as a part of standard delivery:

  • PNTPURCHASE ORD - Point Purchase Order
  • PRDPURCHASE ORD - Product Purchase Order
  • REDEMPTION ORD - Redemption Order ( Mixed Payment )

In this Customizing activity, you can identify which member activity category ID and member activity type is required to be used in the following loyalty scenarios:

Buy Points: In this scenario the member runs short of points to buy a product. He or she places a request to purchase additional points.

For example, a member wants to buy a mobile phone whose point value is 8000 points, but has only 7500 points in his or her account thereby leading to a shortage of 500 points. In this case, the member can buy the additional 500 points using money from the available point products. There will be no physical shipment but only points will be accrued to the point account of the member.

The accrual activity must be processed immediately as the member is running short of points and needs to earn points at the earliest. The associated member activity category ID will be picked from the customization.

Process on hold: refers to the number of days it would take for the member activity to be processed after the creation date of the member activity. This period can be updated. Any updates of the within the defined period will be reflected in the member activity. Ideally the “Process on Hold” value must be set to “0”.

Points Accrual: When a member buys a product from a web shop, there are points associated to this product. The member activity ID and member activity type are required to earn these points.

For example: If a member buys a laptop worth $700, he or she will earn 2000 points. The points are earned by creating member activities. The associated member activity ID and member activity type to be used is maintained in the customization. In this scenario, the earning point process is delayed as the member activity can be processed after few days of shipment or delivery. This helps if the member wants to make changes in the order. The “Process on Hold” value can be set to “n” number of days.

Points Consumption: A member can use his or her earned points and buy products or services. There must be no delay in processing the member activity.

For example, a member has 5000 points in his or her account and wants to redeem these points. The member can buy products from a web shop. If the member wants to buy a pair of shoes worth 3000 points without paying any additional money, 3000 points must be redeemed immediately from his or her account. The points will be redeemed by creating a member activity. The associated member activity ID and member category type is maintained in the customization. There must be no delay in processing the member activity. Ideally the “Process on Hold” value must be set to “0”.

The member activity type and category will be sourced from the Customizing activity Define Member Activity Categories and Types.

The standard delivery contains the following loyalty scenarios:

  • Buy Points
  • Points Accrual
  • Points Consumption

Sales Order System Status: This is the starting point for creation of a member activity. When the sales order is in the status “open” a member activity can be created and processing will happen after the specified number of days.

If the sales order system status for complaints is Completed, a member activity can be created and the processing will happen immediately unless you have set a processing delay.

The following system statuses are available for sales order:

  • Created
  • Open
  • In process
  • Released
  • Completed
  • Confirmed
  • Finished
