In this Customizing activity, you define the residence time in days for postings relevant to the material ledger in the current data. The residence time defines the minimum retention period of data in the current data area. Both postings and the corresponding information about the cost component split are shifted to the historical data.

If you do not make an entry, 731 days are set as the residence time. You can enter a maximum of 9999 days. The minimum residence time is 62 days. This ensures that the data from the previous and current period cannot be shifted. If the residence time is then changed, it only takes effect in the next Data Aging run.

It is still possible to access the data even if it is shifted to the historical area. However, the response times will be longer. You should therefore only access the historical data in exceptional cases. If these exceptions become more frequent, it is possible to reload the historical data back to the current database partition (UNDO run).
