Manage Conditions to Restart Flexible Workflow for Purchase Contracts

In this configuration step, you can select various attributes for purchase contracts that are relevant for the restart of the flexible workflow. Whenever you update the values of these attributes in approved purchase contracts, the system triggers a restart of the approval process.

In some scenarios, you might want to disable some of the default restart workflow conditions for purchase contracts. You can use this configuration step to disable these conditions to prevent the default restart of the workflow.

  • Purchase Contract Attributes: This displays the names of the attributes. When you change values for these attributes in the purchase contract from the apps Manage Purchase Contracts and Create Purchase Contract, the system triggers a restart of the approval workflow. Note: With this configuration step, you can only control workflow restart properties for the following attributes.
Header-Level Attributes:
  • Purchasing Group

  • Total Net Order Value

  • Incoterms

  • Currency

Item-Level Attributes:
  • Material Group

  • Plant

  • Enable Restart of Workflow: By default, this is enabled. If this setting is enabled for a selected attribute, the system restarts the approval workflow when the value of the attribute is changed in an approved purchase contract. If this setting is disabled for a selected attribute, the system does not restart the approval workflow when the value of the attribute is changed in an approved purchase contract.
  • Restart Type: This setting enables you to choose the type of restart, which can be either conditional or always, for each attribute. If restart type is selected as Always Restart, then workflow will be triggered whenever value of the attribute is updated in a purchase contract. If restart type is selected as Conditional Restart, then whenever a new workflow is picked up, only then restart of approval workflow will happen. If same workflow is picked after updating value of a relevant attribute, then approval workflow will not restart.

Note: Additionally, you can use the business add-in (BAdI) MM_PUR_S4_CTR_WFL_RESTART(Definition of Conditions to Restart Workflow in Purchase Contracts) to further control the restart approval workflow based on the attribute values. For more information, see the BAdI documentation and the implementation example (available in the app Custom Logic).
