In this Customizing activity, you configure the data that must be collected from the shop floor. In this activity you define data collection elements that allow you to collect and segregate data from the shop floor. Data is entered either manually or automatically through the OEE operator's dashboard. The SAP OEE application uses these data collection elements to calculate the OEE metrics such as performance, quality, and availability.

You can map different data elements to a data collection element.

You specify the type of the data collection element as quantity or time duration. An element of type quantity is used to report the quantity of the goods produced. An element of type time duration is used to report an event. For this type of element you must also report the start and end time.

Based on the data that the data collection element is configured to report, you can set the context for the data element. The operator can then report data from the dashboard in the mapped contexts, such as finished product, raw material, utilities, and so on.

You specify the dimension of a data collection element. UoMs corresponding to the dimension are available for selection on the Operator dashboard while reporting data from the shop floor.

The data element description you provide here is displayed on the dashboard as well. For example, if you want to collect data for overfill, maintain a data element here with the description Overfill.

By default, SAP provides the following data collection elements in the customization client:

  • Changeover (CHANGEOVER): This data collection element is used to collect the time spent on changeover activities.
  • Flow Time (FLOW_TIME): This data collection element is used to collect the time spent, after production starts, for the material to reach the entire line. It is a non-productive time and is subtracted from the Loading Time.
  • Good quantity (GOOD_QUANTITY): This data collection element is used to collect good quantity data.
  • Quality loss (QUALITY_LOSS): This data collection element is used to collect rejected quantity data.
  • Raw material (RAW_MATERIAL): This data collection element is used to collect the raw material consumption data. This shows the raw material for the material from the order.
  • Scheduled downtime (SCHEDULED_DOWN): This data collection element is used to maintain data for scheduled downtimes for downtimes occurring due to preventive maintenance or holidays.
  • Speed loss (SPEED_LOSS): This data collection element is used to collect speed loss data.
  • Unscheduled down (UNSCHEDULED_DOWN): This data collection element is used to collect unscheduled down data.
  • Utilities (UTILITIES): This data collection element is used to collect utilities data.

When you configure a data collection element, ensure the following:

  • Assign the data collection element to a data element type.
  • Specify the dimension if you do not set the context as raw material or finished goods.
  • If the data element type of the data collection element is either scheduled down, unscheduled down, or speed loss, the data collection element should be of type time.
  • If the data element type of the data collection element is rejected quantity, scrap, or yield, the data collection element should be of type quantity.
  • Data collection element name should not be same as formula parameter.
