The ALE distribution of product catalogs between systems means that the catalog layouts to be distributed have to be identifiable by the same layout number for all systems in a network.

In this step, you make the settings that control number assignment for product catalog layouts at ALE inbound.

  • Original system:

In this field, you enter the logical system that is assigend to a system or client in the network in which the product catalogs are created and distributed via ALE.

  • External number range:

In this field, you assign an external layout number range to the original system. At ALE inbound, the system checks whether the layout numbers of the product catalog IDocs from the original system are within the correct number range. Only if they are is the data processed further or posted.

IDocs from an original system that is not entered here are not processed either.

You must ensure that the limits of a number range assigned to an original system here match the limits of the layout number range for dialog maintenance in the original system.

The layout number ranges for dialog maintenance in all systems in the network that exchange product catalog data via ALE must be disjunct.

If the limits of the internal number range for product catalog maintenance have to be changed, the numbers of catalogs created earlier can be outside the number range intended for them. However, there is a program that enables you to convert these layouts to the new number ranges. The program can be accessed from the product catalog menu under IDoc outbound > Convert catalog.
