You may have to change the name of a logical system.

To do this, use transaction code BDLS. In this way, you convert the name of the logical system in application tables.

Caution:

  • You must not, under any circumstances, convert logical system names in a production system.
  • Conversion of logical system names can result in inconsistencies in the dataset and should only be carried out in exceptional cases and only after data has been saved to the database.
  • Never change the logical system name manually in the relevant tables.
  • IDocs that have not yet been processed must be processed before you start the conversion because these IDocs may contain names of logical systems.
  • No other activities can be carried out in the system while the conversion program is running.
  • The conversion must be carried out in all partner systems. They are converted in the current client, that is, either for all table entries, or only for client-specific table entries.

Depending on the application, you may have to manually reprocess cross-client tables.

  1. In the Old Logical System Name field, enter the name of the logical system to be converted. Use the input help (F4) to display all the logical system names that have been defined in the system.

In the New Logical System Name field, enter a new name for the logical system.

Choose the corresponding option for the conversion of all or only the client-specific tables.

Before you carry out this step, check which tables contain the specified logical system name.
  • To do this, select the Test Run field and click the execute symbol. A list of relevant table entries will be displayed.

  • Navigate back and deactivate the Test Run field.

  1. Start the conversion by clicking the execute symbol.
  2. Navigate back when the conversion is complete.
  • When you are copying application data for a client copy, the logical system names are automatically converted in the target client, provided that logical system names have been maintained in both clients. Cross-client table entries are not converted. If you are only copying Customizing data for the client copy, no conversion takes place.
  • To ensure your ALE business processes continue to function after the client copy, you have to modify the distribution environment in the new system as follows:
  • Maintain the distribution model

  • Perform communication settings (RFC destination, port definition, and partner profile). These were deactivated when the conversion was carried out.
