ESS users have the option of creating a new infotype record for salary conversion. In this case, you can determine default values for the infotype fields.

Assign an identification for default values and use a long text to describe this identification. Enter the default values for the infotype fields.

Note the following points:

1. In the Define Conversion Models section, default values are assigned to a conversion model.
2. In the Maintain Screen Control section, you can choose to hide fields from the ESS user interface. If hidden fields are filled with default values, upon saving these are stored in the infotype such that they are not visible to the user.
3. If ESS users save their entries, the logic of infotype 263 runs. The validations of the infotype are also performed, as well as, for example, the validations that have been defined for a conversion method in Customizing. When using prefilled hidden fields, make sure that the default values are consistent with the validations.
   The infotype logic also checks whether all mandatory fields have been filled. If you hide such fields from the ESS user interface, you must fill the fields with default values.
