Wage basis days are the number of days for which the company pays salary for employees within one month. In some statutory forms such as Employment Insurance Certification of Leaving, show the number of wage basis days for each insured period. Reports that prepare statutory forms also use the number of wage basis days to determine whether the selection period is included in insured period calculation.

  • For salaried employees, normally, their salaries are determined on monthly basis and there is no wage cut even if they have absent days during the month. The number of wage basis days is equal to the number of calendar days.
  • For periodic wage earners, their salaries are determined by the number of working days. The number of wage basis days is equal to the number of working days.
  • For daily or hourly wage earners, their salaries are determined on a daily or an hourly basis. The number of wage basis days is equal to the number of working days.

In this Customizing activity, based on your own requirements, you can define the required number of wage basis days. The system uses the number of days to determine whether the selection period is included in insured period calculation.

The setting affects the following reports:

In the standard system, the default value is 11 days, which is the minimum number of days regulated by the Japanese authorities. 11 is the lowest number of days that you can enter.

Kenji is a salaried worker who left your company on September 30, 2008. He was absent from January 10, 2008 to July 31, 2008. If the company is required to provide the six months' payroll results for valid insured period within a year, the reports display the following periods:

Period of Days
September 1, 2008 - Leaving date 30
August 1, 2008- August 31, 2008 31
January 1, 2008 - January 31, 2008 9
December 1, 2007- December 31, 2007 31
November 1, 2007- November 30, 2007 30
October 1, 2007 - October 31, 2007 31
September 1, 2007 - September 30, 2007 30

Note

2008.02.01 ~ 2008.07.31 is not displayed due to Kenji's inactive status.

2008.01.01 ~ 2008.01.31 is displayed but the system does not count this period as a valid period. since the number of wage basis days is 9, which is less than the required number of 11.
