In this section, you define data that relates to the following identification numbers used by Canadian enterprises:

  • the Business Number, issued by the Canada Revenue Agency to enterprises throughout Canada for tax remittance purposes
  • the Quebec Tax ID, issued by le Ministère du Revenu du Québec to enterprises in Quebec for tax remittance purposes
  • the WCB Business Number, derived from the CRA Business Number for Workers' Compensation remittance purposes in Nova Scotia
All Canadian enterprises must execute this step, which is the first step in this section, and which defines data that relates to the Business Numbers used within your enterprise. The data entered here is accessed by the system during a variety of payroll processes, including Year End Reporting.
In addition, if your enterprise employs individuals in Quebec or Nova Scotia, then you must execute the second and third steps of this chapter, respectively.

This step accesses a view cluster that consists of three separate configurable views. Consequently, three separate procedures are required to carry out configuration. These procedures, numbered 1. through 3., are described below.

  1. Execute this IMG step.
On the subsequent screen, you will be located at the top level of the view cluster. At this level, you enter all Registration Numbers used by your enterprise, then assign reporting addresses to them.
  1. Select New entries.
  2. Under the Reg. No. column, enter all Registration Numbers used within your enterprise. (The Registration Number consists of the first nine digits of any 15-digit Business Number issued by the Canada Revenue Agency.)
  3. For each Registration Number entered, complete the name, street address, city, province, postal code and telephone number of the corresponding subsidiary.
  4. Save your entries.
  • Select Complete Business Numbers/Quebec Tax IDs.
  • On the following screen, you will be located at the middle level of the view cluster. At this level, you assign all corresponding Account Numbers to Registration Numbers in order to create a complete list of the Business Numbers used within your enterprise.
    1. Select New entries.
    2. Under the Reg. No. column, select one of the Registration Numbers entered in step 1b.
    3. Under Acct. type, select RP.
    4. Under Accnr, enter a four-digit Account Number, which corresponds to the final four digits of the Business Number to be completed.
    5. Repeat steps 2b. through 2d. until all Business Numbers used within your enterprise have been entered.
    6. Save your entries.
  • Select Assign Tax Reporting Units to Bus. Nos./QC Tax IDs.
  • On the following screen, you will be located at the bottom level of the view cluster. At this level, you assign Business Numbers to arbitrary Tax Reporting Units of your choosing. Although this assignment is not required, we strongly recommend that you perform it to facilitate Year End Reporting.
    1. Select New entries.
    2. Make the appropriate selections in the Reg. No., Acct. type and Accnrcolumns to specify a Business Number.
    3. Under Tax Rep. U., assign the Business Number to an arbitrary five-character Tax Reporting Unit of your choosing.
    4. Under From and To, delimit the validity of the assignment.
    5. Repeat steps 3b. through 3d. until all Business Numbers have been assigned to the appropriate Tax Reporting Units.
    6. Save your entries, then exit this step of the Implementation Guide.

Within Customizing for Payroll Canada (PY-CA), a similar step may be used to access the same view cluster that this step accesses. That step is located here:
