If a teacher has had any days off for which he or she has received no pay, including sickness, or in case of maternity, nor pay or SMP, they should be returned in the TPS Annual return as ' Days Excluded'.in the 'Service Annual Retrun details' records.

Maternity leave and sickness on reduced pay must be returned as 'Special Notes' on the 'Additional Contribution details' records.

In this cativity you indicate which Absence valuation rules defined in table Absence Valuation Rules (T554L) shoudl be considered as relevant to 'Days Excluded'. You also indicate which absence valuation rules correspond to evaluation of maternity and sickness on reduced pay.

the days excluded will not be shown where part-time salary has been provided unless the employee is in concurrent part-time employment whith different annual salary rates applied. In this case the following 2 step formula will be used to calculate days excluded:

1. Calculate the reckonable service credit (RSC).

P1 P2

RSC = ------- x 365 + ------- x 365

R1 R2

Where:

P1 = Salary paid for first appointment

R1 = Salary rate for first appointmnet

P2 = Salary paid for second appointment

R2 = Salary rate for second appointmnet

2. Calculate days excluded

Days in period - RSC = days excluded

Where:

Days in period = number of days from start date to end date (inclusive).
