The Attachment Service allows applications to store files (for example PDF, XML, and so on) in the system.

For the Attachment Service, you must set the default data carried for the DMS, in Customizing activity Define Data Carrier.

Check that the followings settings exist or make these settings if required.

In step Define data carrier type "server, front end":

  • Type: PC
  • Online: [Checked]

In sub-step Identify frontend computers:

  • Data Carr.: Default
  • Type: PC
  • Net.address: DEFAULT
  • Description: Default for local PC

You set up the Attachment Service in two steps:

  1. You define the object link in activity Define Object for Attachment, and set up the Document Type in the Document Management System that will be used for the Attachment Service in activity Define Document Type.
  2. You assign an Application to the document type you created earlier in activity Assign Document Type to Application.

When you have made these settings, the application will be able to use the Attachment Service as a storage medium. By default, the SAP system does not contain a definition of the documents and relevant functions are deactivated.

As a general rule, you should not process documents that are used by Attachment Service with DMS transactions, except mass operations such as deletion of old and unnecessary attachments that you no longer use.

You want to enable Attachment Service for Report Management System to store report representations and enable faster access to content of the finalized or archived reports.

You set up table with name LREP and define document type RM1 (use names in customer namespaces to avoid name conflicts). You assign your object link to document type and leave other fields to their default values.

To activate attachment service in RMS, you assign application with identifier RMS to document type you have created.
