In this step, you assign the Workers' Compensation codes you created in the step Define WC classification codes to organizational units. If you want to assign WC codes at a more detailed level, you can assign codes to specific jobs or positions in the second and third activities of this step.

You want to assign Workers' Compensation code '1234' (Driver) to Job number 4651 (Delivery Driver). The code is valid for the state of Texas. The assignment should be valid from 01/01/1998 to 12/31/1999.
To make this assignment, you would choose the second activity in this step, Assign WC codes to jobs. You can make the following entries in the table:

You have defined the organizational units, jobs and positions to which you want to assign WC codes. The codes you want to assign have been created in the appropriate step in this IMG chapter.

  1. In the first activity, make the WC code assignments at organizational unit level.
  2. If required, make the WC code assignments at job level in the second activity.
  3. If required, make the WC code assignments at position level in the third activity.

If WC code assignments exist for an employee at multiple levels (i.e., for their Organizational Unit and Job) the assignment at the lowest level takes priority. For example, if a WC code is assigned to:

  1. an employee's Organizational Unit
  2. the Job that describes the employee's position, and
  3. the employee's position

the Workers' Compensation Report will use the WC code assigned to the employee's position when calculating the WC premium. If codes are assigned to Organizational Unit and Job for the same employee, the report will use the code assigned at the Job level, and so forth.
