SAP E-Book

In this IMG activity, customers define the characteristics of infotype fields (as in the SAP: Define Field Characteristics IMG activity).

You can define the field characteristics for both customer and SAP infotypes. In the case of SAP infotypes, this overrides the settings in the SAP: Define Field Characteristics IMG activity, provided that SAP permits this.

Furthermore, you can define characteristics for customer fields that you have included in the SAP infotype structure (Pnnnn structure). For more information, see the SAP Library and choose HR Tools -> Developing an Infotype in Personnel Administration -> Developing an Infotype -> Enhancing an Infotype Included in the SAP Standard System.

You may only define the characteristics of an SAP infotype field if SAP permits this. This is permitted if the fix indicator is not set for the infotype version and the subtype in the relevant entry in the SAP: Define Field Characteristics IMG activity. If the fix indicator is missing, look for the next entry according to the priority list (that is the entry with the next lowest relevance as it is less specific):

  • Subtype specified but infotype version not specified (initial)
  • Infotype version specified but subtype not specified (initial)
  • Infotype version and subtype not specified (both initial)

  1. Specify the work area. Enter the number of the infotype for which you want to maintain the field attributes.
  2. Choose New Entries.
  3. Enter the infotype version, or leave it initial if the following specifications apply to all infotype versions of the infotype.
  4. Enter the subtype, or leave it initial if the following specifications apply to all subtypes of the infotype.
  5. Enter the name (type name) of the P structure (using the convention Pnnnn) that contains the infotype field. nnnn is either the number of the infotype or the number of the secondary infotype if the infotype version is an infotype view.
  6. Enter the name of the field. The field must be part of the previously specified structure.
  7. Make entries for the field characteristics Required Entry Field, Output Field and Not Used. For more information about field characteristics, see the documentation for the SAP: Define Field Characteristics IMG activity.
