Allows you to define measuring point categories to characterize counter readings and measurement readings.

In this IMG activity, you define measuring point categories. You always need measuring point categories when you want to enter counter readings or measurement readings for equipment or functional locations.

You can define measuring point categories in this configuration step. You always need measuring point categories when you want to enter counter readings or measurement readings for equipment or functional locations. You can also enable publishing of business events whenever a measuring point or measurement document is created for a measuring point category.

The measuring point category defines:

You use the measurement position to define the sort sequence of measuring points for the measuring point object (for example, measurement position 1 "Pressure in front left tire", measurement position 2 "Pressure in front right tire".)
You can use the uniqueness check for measurement positions to prevent a measurement position from being defined multiple times for one object. You can also check uniqueness at client level.
You can also use catalogs for measurement recording or counter recording.
In catalogs, you can define allowed values for a measuring point, which you can select when recording measurements via the catalog hierarchy.
You can use this functionality if you want to predefine qualitative or descriptive measurement readings, or want to use these predefined values when recording counter readings.
  • Which system response occurs if measurement range limits are exceeded
  • Which allowed tolerance time exists for recording future measurement readings
The tolerance time is given in seconds.
Measurement readings and counter readings are actual data and cannot be in the future, so this function only makes sense if the measurement readings are copied from another system whose CPU time (= time of measurement recording) is different from the CPU time of the SAP system.
  • Whether you can create linear data for a measuring point
If you want to create linear data for a measuring point, you must set the Linear Asset indicator for the measuring point category.
In the standard system, the measuring point category L - Linear Data is available in client 000 and can be copied to the relevant clients.

Catalogs should be maintained.

The standard system contains a measuring point category.

  1. Check the delivered measuring point category.
  2. Adjust the delivered measuring point category to meet your requirements.
  3. Define new measuring point categories if required.
