SAP E-Book
Note
It is still possible to use the e-mail procedure until December 31, 2015.

E-mail is used as the transfer service for communication with the health insurance funds. To be able to send e-mails from the SAP system, the e-mail functionality of the SAP system must be configured appropriately.

Depending on your SAP system and the basis release used, there are several ways to link your mail server to the SAP system (see SAP Note 455127).

  • SAPconnect with SMTP (as of SAP Technology Release 6.10)
The SAP system kernel directly supports SMTP, the Internet e-mail protocol. In other words, without any other components, e-mails can be sent from the SAP system to all mail servers that are SMTP compliant or can be received from these mail servers.
For information about the configuration, see SAP Note 455140.
  • SAPconnect with RFC (from SAP Technology Release 3.1 to 6.x)
Using RFC, you can connect various gateways that transfer e-mails between the SAP system and specific mail servers. These gateways perform the actual mail transfer using SMTP to or from the remote participants.
The following products can be used as mail gateways:
  • SAP Internet Mail Gateway

Connection to Sendmail under UNIX + Win NT, or AnyMail under AS/400.
For more information, see SAP notes 101573and 99965.
  • SAP Exchange Connector

Connection to Microsoft Exchange Server
For more information, see SAP notes 122657and 63480.
  • Lotus Domino MTA for R/3

Connection to Lotus Domino Server
For more information, contact Lotus.
  • Third-party products from partner companies

Some of the products certified under BC-CON or BC-PAG from SAP partner companies (Fax or Paging/SMS-Server, see SAP Notes 17194 or 455129) also support e-mail.
For more information, contact the relevant manufacturer or supplier.

For documentation about SAPconnect, see the SAP Library for the SAP Web Application Server (as of 5.0) or BC - Basis (until 4.6) under Basis Services/Communication Interfaces (BC-SRV) -> Communication Interface (BC-SRV-COM) -> SAPconnect (BC-SRV-COM).

For Release 6.10, there is an updated version of the SAPconnect documentation on the FTP-Hosts sapserv* (see SAP Note 440252).
