When you are setting display options for global fields, you first see the component structure in the initial screen. Each global field is assigned to an application component. Use of global fields is directly related to the components selected for your company. The structure you see contains active and nonactive components, reflecting the Enterprise IMG selection. The legend explains the colors used for components.

  1. Select the components for which you wish to maintain or create global fields.
  2. Change the global fields that are proposed or that you defined for the selected active components. The selected objects (domains and data elements) are displayed as a tree. For each object you can see the technical name, the short description from the ABAP Dictionary, the display characteristics, and the status.
You can:
  • select "No input" so the field no longer accepts input

This is recommended only for fields that can have not more than one valid value.
  • select "Invisible" to hide the field

This is recommended only for inactive components.
  • enter the required value for the global field by double-clicking the value field and entering the value in the dialog box that is presented.

  1. Select the required global fields and activate them.
Changes are effective in the transactions concerned immediately.

The maintenance transaction options are described in the online documentation (choose "i").

Global fields for inactive components are automatically hidden when you generate your Project IMG. You can then change their display characteristics.
