This enhancement can be used to define conversion rules if you want to use a different input/output format (external format) to the database format (internal format) of the GTIN (Global Trade Item Number).

This enhancement has two methods:

  • GTIN_CONVERT_TO_IO_FORMAT is used to convert the internal format of the GTIN to the external format.
  • GTIN_CONVERT_TO_DB_FORMAT is used to convert the external format of the GTIN to the internal format.

When converting the GTIN to the internal format, you must make sure that the GTIN is 14 digits long and contains only digits.

This enhancement can be implemented in such a way that:

  • No leading zeros need to be entered when a GTIN is entered
  • GTINs with 11 or 12 relevant digits are always output as a 13-digit number

This enhancement contains example code which does the following:

  • A GTIN entered is automatically padded with leading zeros
  • A GTIN is output with 13 digits if the first digit is a zero
