In this Customizing activity, you define various promotion conditions and group them into promotion rules; in addition, you determine the background check logic for each promotion condition.

In the follow-up activity, you can map promotion rules to positions. When the HR administrator initiates a job promotion process, the system checks the assigned promotion rule to detect the eligible employees. When employees fill out the online application form using the Employee Self-Service, the system also checks against the assigned promotion rules to validate their eligibility for promotion.

  1. Define services for checking promotion.
Each check service corresponds to a BAdI implementation of the BAdI definition PBSSA_PROMOTION_CONDITION. The Promotion Pre-Check (Grade 2-10)(HSAPEPP0) report calls these implementations to check if an employee is eligible for job promotion.
  1. Define promotion conditions.
You give each promotion condition a numeric ID, and provide a description.
  1. Map promotion conditions with check services.
  2. Define promotion rules.
You give each promotion rule a numeric ID, and provide a description.
  1. Set up promotion rules.
You combine several promotion conditions to form a promotion rule. Since later you need to assign promotion rules to positions, make sure you form every possible combination in this step, and provide clear description indicating the purpose.
