In this Customizing activity that deals with employee promotion, you maintain the possible higher positions for a particular job in the job classification matrix, and assign a promotion rule to each advanced position.

A promotion rule defines the requirements that an employee must meet to be eligible for a promotion. Once you assign a promotion rule to a position, when you run the Promotion Report - KSA Public Sector (HSAPEPPS), the system can find eligible employees according to the promotion rule; that is, employees who have meet all the promotion conditions in a promotion rule.

  • Familiarize yourself of requirements for each position, and the promotion path in the public sector. You can check the job classification matrix in Customizing for Payroll Saudi Arabia, under Public Sector -> Master Data -> Maintain Job Classification Matrix.
  • You have defined promotion rules in Customizing for Payroll Saudi Arabia, under Public Sector -> Promotion -> Define Promotion Conditions and Rules.

In the table, the following columns must be set with a value: Job Clas. and Rank/Grade.

Note: The value for the public sector in the Job Clas. column is signified by a blank.

By default, the system calculates the promotion path of an employee from his or her current Rank/Grade to the next Rank/Grade, for example, from Rank/Grade 10 to Rank/Grade 11. For these default progression paths, only the Job Clas. and Rank/Grade columns need to filled with specific values.

Where the Gen. Group, Cluster, and Cat. Series columns are blank, this means that the default progression path applies automatically to all positions within an organization.

However, you can use the table to specify alternative promotion paths for particular jobs, for example, Rank/Grade 10 to Rank/Grade 12 for educational assistants only. When you specify an alternative promotion path for a particular job, you must fill in values for that job in the Gen. Group, Cluster, Cat. Series, and Rank/Grade columns. You can then use the Rule column to assign a promotion rule to the alternative promotion path.

If the provided promotion rules cannot meet your requirements, you can define additional promotion criteria in Business Add-In definition (PBSSA_PROMOTION_CONDITION). For more information, see BAdI: Promotion Condition Check and Points Calculation
