In Egypt, employees who contribute privately to health and life insurance may be entitled for a certain amount of tax exemption based on the contributed amount. The tax exemption is subject to a government-defined limit.

In this Customizing activity, you enter the government-defined limit as a value of payroll constant EXLMT.

In constant MULFT, you also enter the statutory percentage of an employee's annual salary up to which tax exemptions for personal contributions towards life and health insurance are allowed.

  • In constant EXLMT, you enter the statutory tax exemption limit for employee contributions to health and life insurance. For example, if the government specifies that the exemption limit for personal contributions to health and life insurance is 5000 EGP, you enter a value of 5000 for this constant.
  • In constant MULFT, you enter the statutory percentage of an employee's annual salary up to which tax exemptions for personal contributions to life and health insurance are allowed. The percentage must be entered as a decimal. For instance, 15% must be entered as 0.15

An employee's annual salary is 100,000 EGP. The statutory exemption percentage is 15%, or 15000 EGP, expressed as 0.15 in constant MULFT. The government-defined exemption limit is 5000 EGP. The employee has contributed 8000 EGP.

The system compares 15000 EGP with the employee's actual insurance contribution (8000 EGP) and the exemption limit stored in constant EXLMT (5000 EGP). The lowest of these three values will be taken as the employee's annual exemption in that tax year.
