In this Customizing activity, you define the catalogs and code groups you want to use in Quality Issue Management (QIM). You use catalogs to categorize code groups and codes by subject. When you create an issue, you can select codes and code groups via catalogs.

You can specify the catalog that is used to search for codes or code groups using the text type (see Customizing activity Define Settings for Text Types). This catalog is set as the default value for the code group search.

For code groups, you can create a multilevel hierarchy by entering other subordinate code groups below a code group.

Example:
You create the code groups DEF01, DEF02, and DEF03. You select the code group DEF01 and choose the folder Subcode Groups. As the subcode group for DEF01, you enter code group DEF02. Then select the code group DEF02 and enter DEF03 as the subcode group.

When searching for codes via a code group, the result list is displayed as a hierarchy tree with the codes that are assigned to the individual code groups.

In the standard system, specific catalogs and code groups are delivered for the individual issue categories (issue, defect, cause, effect) and the activity category QIM_ACT, so that you can restrict the search for codes in the application directly via a catalog for the respective category.

  1. Create the required catalogs.
  2. Assign codes to the catalogs.
You can assign a code to one or more catalogs and code groups.
  1. Define the code groups for each catalog.
You can assign code groups to one specific catalog only.
To create multilevel code groups, you can assign other code groups to a code group.
  1. Assign codes to the code groups.
In the code group table, you can jump to the activity for defining the code-to-code group relationship from the Change Code Assignments column. This allows different users to edit the codes for different code groups in parallel.
Notes
  • In the Customizing activity Define Issue Types, you can assign the code group to a text type directly. You can also assign a proposal code to the activity template.

  • With rule-based activity determination, you can assign a code group and code to an activity template for a specific context.

  • With rule-based code group determination, you can assign a code group and code to a quality issue for a specific context.

Using Business Rule Framework plus (BRFplus), you can store rules for code group determination in an issue type. You define your own rule sets and functions in the BRFplus Workbench.
  1. If you want to structure code groups hierarchically, select a code group and choose Subcode Groups. Assign the subcode group to the selected code group.
