Create, edit, and delete warehouse numbers and their descriptions.

Create warehouse numbers and their descriptions.

A warehouse complex is represented in Warehouse Management by a warehouse number. You can assign the warehouse number a description to make it easier to identify. You cannot assign an address to a warehouse number. Therefore, the physical location of the warehouse is usually part of the description. A warehouse number groups together storage types and storage bins that are organized and maintained as a complete unit.

Whenever a warehouse activity happens, the warehouse number appears to identify the warehouse that the activity occurred in. A warehouse activity is, for example, a stock placement or removal.

A warehouse number has the following characteristics:

  • A short descriptive text used to identify it later
  • Material data specific to the warehouse number
  • Stock figures. These are managed as quantities, not as values.

Within a plant it is possible to assign several storage locations to the same warehouse number.

A warehouse complex is represented in Logistics Execution by a warehouse number. You can assign the warehouse number a description to make it easier to identify. You cannot assign an address to a warehouse number. Therefore, the physical location of the warehouse is usually part of the description. You can link warehouse numbers in Logistics Execution, which have 3 digits, to warehouse numbers in Warehouse Management in SAP S/4HANA Cloud, which have 4 digits, or to a decentralized warehouse management system, or a decentralized SAP EWM system. If you are using Warehouse Management, you must link the warehouse number from Logistics Execution to the warehouse number in Warehouse Management. For more information, see configuration steps Define Warehouse Number and Assign Warehouse Numbers from Logistics Execution.

A warehouse number in Logistics Execution has the following characteristics:

  • It has 3 digits.
  • It has a short descriptive text.

Within a plant it is possible to assign several storage locations to the same warehouse number.

Note that you cannot assign more than one storage location to the same warehouse number in Logistics Execution if the warehouse number is linked to a warehouse number in Warehouse Management.

SAP recommends keeping the warehouse number 001 if you wish to manage only one warehouse complex.

For this, you only need to adapt a small number of tables.

  1. Create a warehouse number and add a description for it.

You cannot edit a warehouse number after creating it. You can only change its description or delete it and create a new entry.

  1. Create a warehouse number and add a description for it.
  2. Save your entries.

For more information about the warehouse number, refer to the IMG for Warehouse Management, Section Define control parameters for the warehouse number.
