In this IMG activity, you assign number ranges for employees.

Employees are managed as business partners in the IS-H System. To create business partners you require number ranges within which you can assign internal or external numbers. The numbers of the business partners are unique within a client.

The number range object ISH_NGPA is predefined, since it is used in the maintenance programs.

Do not make an entry in the institution field.

If you want to transfer employee data from a human resources system into the IS-H System, you can create a special external number range for these business partners. This number range is controlled by means of the entry RP in the subobject field (Obj. Key). Enter NRP for employee data that is not transferred from a human resources system.

If you reserve your own external number range for the RP entry, you must make sure that this external number range is not used for another object, and that no other external number range affects the RP number range.

It is not possible to specify a internal number range for the RP entry. Any such specification is, therefore, without effect.

Enter N for normal operation in the transaction mode field (M).

You maintain the number range intervals by choosing Intervals and then Insert Interval. In each case, the system checks whether the intervals overlap. The numbers for external and internal number range intervals must not overlap.

You can specify both internal and external number ranges for each object. You can also define the external number range alphanumerically. In this case, you are not required to create a separate number range. You need only select the A field (alphanumeric) for the corresponding object.

No explicit function is provided for transferring the data. You must either modify the standard batch input, or create your own program.

You must replace transaction code NG04 in the standard batch input by NG30.

If you want to transfer employee data from a human resources system, the employee number has the following composition in the IS-H System:

  • 2-digit prefix for the internal number assignment from the human resources system (client-specific, time-dependent system parameter PR_PRAEF). For more information about this parameter, refer to the section entitled Maintain Client-Specific, Time-Dependent Parameters.
  • 8-digit number from the human resources system
The numbers of this number range for employees from the human resources system must therefore comprise 10 digits. The numbers of the number range for employees who are created in the IS-H System may comprise up to 8 digits.
The numbers of the number ranges for the remaining business partners should also only comprise 8 digits to avoid overlaps with the numbers of the employee data from the human resources system.

For more information about number assignment for business partners, refer to the section entitled Define Number Ranges for Business Partners in the IS-H Implementation Guide.
