In this IMG activity, you modify the attributes of customer-defined message segments.

  1. You should not modify the attributes you copied from the template when creating the message segment. Only the status of your message segment should be changed to "productive" when this applies. Thereafter, you should no longer make changes to this message segment.
  2. With customer-defined message segments, you can include special FORM routines (user exits) in standard processing. These routines accommodate segment-specific data retrieval, formatting and updating.
  3. In the case of inbound messages, this routine executes before the data is transferred into the SAP original structure. This original structure is also used for writing incoming data to the database.
  4. In the case of outbound messages, this routine executes after the data is transferred from the SAP original structure. This originalstructure is used for retrieving data from the database. Data that does not exist in the SAP original structure is the subject of an additional read operation initiated by the customer FORM routine.
  5. You have to specify the name of the FORM routine and the FORM routine pool containing the routine along with the segment attributes. It is then essential that you re-generate the customer structures.

Use a customer-specific FORM routine pool in the reserved name range (starting with "Y" or "Z") for these conversion routines.

The different procedures are described in the SAP pools RNCZOUT0 and RNCIN00. The examples given should help you understand what is involved here.
