In the following steps you define your own columns for the object manager and the overview area (step 1) and customize Column Groups (step 2).

  1. In the Define Your Own Column step, make the following settings:
  • In the Column field, you must enter a unique column name. For each column you can save a heading, which will appear as a column heading when you display the column.

  • The Width field defines the initial width of the column.

  • The Alignment field specifies the alignment of the column contents.

  • If you specify an icon name, the icon entered will be displayed in addition to the column heading when you display the column in tree form. You can see icons and their names by calling up the transaction ICON.

  • The Conversion Exit field is relevant for columns whose contents cannot be sorted correctly in the displayed form (for example dates). In that case you must enter a conversion exit and make entries in the Internal Length and Output Length fields. Internal Length is the length of the unconverted field entry, Output Length the length of the field entry after conversion. Both are expressed in bytes. (Example: the internal configuration of a date has the form YYYYMMDD and a length of 8. The output length for a format such as DD.MM.YYYY is 10).

  • You must enter a function module with a standard interface, which returns the column contents.

  • If the column is only used in the tree display, links, pushbuttons and check boxes can also be part of the contents. In that case you must specify a function module which reacts to a corresponding event (for example, clicking on a link).

  • The optional function module for refreshing column content is only useful if the content is buffered program-internally. In that case, if there is a change to data, you can call up the refresh function module to tell the program to invalidate the buffer.

In the function group OM_INTERFACE_TEMPLATES there are documented templates for the three above-mentioned function modules.
  1. In the Customize Column Groups step, make the following settings:
  • In the Column Group field, enter the column group key. If the paramater OM_ARRAYTYPE_DISPLAY is set, you can see the column group key for a column group currently displayed in a structural or list display, and information about which columns are assigned to this column group, by clicking the Technical Info pushbutton in the column configuration dialog box.

  • In the Column field, enter the key of the column that you want to add or whose attributes you want to change. In the view V77ACOL you can see the attributes of columns already assigned to SAP standard column groups.

  • In the Position field, you can determine the position of the column within the column group.

Definition of the following attributes is optional:
