SIMG_CFMENUOLPSOPV4 - Define iPPE Variants
PERFORM Short Reference CPI1466 during BackupThis documentation is copyright by SAP AG.
In this activity, you define variants for the nodes that you have already defined in the activity Define Node Types.
You can use a variant to document that one node can have various concrete forms. When you maintain data in the iPPE Workbench, the variant that belongs to the node is automatically selected.
The following variant types are provided as standard:
Product Structure | |
---|---|
Access Variant | Focus Access Variant |
Component Variant | Focus Variant |
Color Variant | Focus Color Variant |
Assembly Header | Focus Assembly Header |
Assembly Item | Focus Assembly Item |
Other Variant Types | |

Concept |
You cannot change the characteristics of standard variant types. You can use the standard variant types in all the iPPE applications (product structure, process structure, factory layout) to represent your master data.
When you create new variant types, you must use one of the standard variant types as a template. However, you cannot create new variant types that constitute an enhancement of an existing variant type.
The name space S_ is reserved for the standard variant types. You cannot create variant types whose technical name begins with the letter S.
Use the predefined variant types.
Create a new variant type as follows:
- In Customizing, choose Production Basic Data -> Integrated Product and Process Engineering -> iPPE Object Administration -> Define iPPE Variants.
- The screen Change View "iPPE Variant Types": Overview appears.
- To create a new entry, choose New Entries.
- The screen New Entries: Details of Added Entries appears.
- In the Variant Type field, enter a technical name for the new variant type.
- In the Ref.Var.Type field, enter the name of the variant type whose characteristics you require for the new variant type and choose Enter.
- The characteristics of the reference variant type are visible for the new variant type. The fields that you can change are ready for input.
-
Enter data as required and save your entries.
