In this activity, you define alternatives for the nodes that you have defined in the activity Define General iPPE Node Types.

An alternative documents, for example, that a node and its structure can be assembled differenty in different plants. When you edit data in the iPPE Workbench, the system automatically selects the relevant alternative for the node.

Settings for the following types of alternatives are included in the standard Customizing.

  • Alternative Types for the Product Structure
  • PVS Access Alternative Segment (access node)

  • PVS Structure Alternative Segment (structure node)

  • Variant Assembly Alternative

  • Assembly Alternative

  • Focus VA Alternative

  • Focus Assembly Alternative

  • Alternative Types for the Process Structure
  • Mode (Line)

  • Mode of an Activity (Shop floor)

  • Alternative Types for the Factory Layout
  • Alternative Line

  • Alternative Work Center

  • Part of Line Network

Use the alternative types provided by SAP.

To create new types of alternatives,

  1. In Customizing for Production, choose Basic Data -> Integrated Product and Process Engineering -> Administration of iPPE Objects -> Define iPPE Alternatives.
The screen Change iPPE Alternative Types appears.
  1. To make a new entry, choose New Entries.
The screen New Entires: Details of Added Entries appears.
  1. In the field Alternative Type, enter a technical name for the new alternative type.
  2. In the field Reference Alt. Type, enter the alternative type whose attributes you wish to copy to the new alternative type.
The attributes of the reference type are displayed for the new alternative type. The fields you can change are ready for input.
  1. Enter data as required and save your entries.
