SAP E-Book

Allows you to define the quality notification types.

Each notification type has a reference to a notification category and an origin. The category of a notification is fixed, based on the origin of the notification.

For example, you can create quality notification types for the following origins:

  • Customer complaint
  • Complaint against a supplier
  • Internal problem notification

The origin includes an appropriate screen control in the transactions for the notification.

There are very comprehensive controls for the notification type. Due to the scope of these controls, they are described in separate sections in Customizing.

With the notification type, you define the use of the notification.

In the standard system, for example, the following notification types are available:

  • General Q-notification types Q*
  • Customer complaints Q1

  • Complaints against suppliers Q2

  • Internal problem notifications Q3

  • Q-notification types for recording defects for inspection lots F*
  • Defect records for a goods issue inspection F1

  • Defect records for a goods receipt inspection F2

  • Defect records for an inspection during production F3

Use the notification types predefined in the standard system, if you define your own notification types.

Above all, determine which criteria will be used to distinguish the notification types. The possible criteria might include:

  • Origin
This distinction is required because it allows you to provide the appropriate screen controls.
  • The organizational units, departments or process stages in which the notification originates or which the notification references.
If you use this criterion in the defects recording function to define report categories, you can avoid subdividing the notification types excessively.
  • The control parameters that are assigned to the notification type
This additional means of differentiating between the notification types allows you to implement different notification processing sequences and they may be useful for this reason.
  • The grouping methods for evaluations
The QM information system summarizes the key figures for Q-notifications on the basis of notification types. Make sure you take this into consideration from the beginning!
  1. Determine which notification types will be used in your company and define their parameters:
  • Origin

  • Catalog profile
(You can also define the catalog profile later in the view "Basic data for the notification type")

Also specify:
  • Whether the notification number should be displayed immediately when a Q-notification is created.

  • Which update group will be used for the summarization of data in the QM information system

In the settings for the quality inspection, you can reference a notification type in the inspection type. The system uses this notification type to record defects for an inspection lot.
