When you perform this IMG activity, you define bulkiness groups, bulkiness factors and minimum weights for shipping units.

Bulkiness factor:

You have made the following agreement with your forwarding agent:

  • Shipment costs are calculated based on the weight to be shipped. The prices depend on a corresponding scaling.
  • For large-volume goods, you proceed as follows:
  • The volume (in litres) is divided by 6.

  • The resulting number is compared with the weight and the larger of the two numbers is set as the new weight.

  • The costs are then calculated based on this new weight.

Minimum weight:

You have made the following agreement with your forwarding agent:

  • Shipment costs are calculated based on the shipping units to be shipped (paletts or wire baskets, for example). For certain shipping units, the forwarding agent fixes a minimum weight.
  • For calculating the shipment costs, the actual weight of a shipping unit is compared with the corresponding minimum weight. The larger of the two numbers is used as the calculation basis.
  • Instead of a minimum weight, you can also define a minimum volume or a minimum length of loading platform.
  1. To define a bulkiness group:
    1. Choose "New entries".
    2. Enter a alphanumeric key with a maximum of six digits and a description.
    3. Save your entries.
  2. To assign bulkiness factors to a bulkiness group:
    1. Choose "New entries".
    2. Enter a reference scale basis to which the calculation refers (gross weight, for example).
    3. As the first unit of measure, enter a unit that complies with the reference scale basis (kilogram, for example).
    4. As the second unit of measure, enter a unit that complies with the comparison scale basis (litre, for example).
    5. Enter a bulkiness factor.
    6. Save your entries.
  3. To assign minimum weights to a bulkiness group:
    1. Choose "New entries".
    2. Enter a shipping material, for which you have defined a minimum weight (or volume or length of loading platform).
    3. Enter a minimum weight (or volume or length of loading platform) and a corresponding unit of measure.
    4. Save your entries.

When the shipment costs are calculated, the system determines the bulkiness group using the condition technique of pricing. In the standard system, condition type "SP00" is available for this purpose. Create corresponding condition records.
