Define the control type and other settings for your in-house production strategies.

In this workstep, you make the settings for the replenishment strategies for in-house production.

Each strategy is defined by the following data:

  • The Control Type determines how the in-house production of the Kanban material is carried out. You can select one of the following options:
  • Working with kanbans and cost collector

  • Working with planned orders and cost collector

  • Working with production orders

  • Replenishment using containers / MRP

  • Working with planned orders / MRP

  • Working with production orders / MRP

  • Processing with cards and reporting points

  • Processing with cards and reporting points / preplanning with MRP

  • The Order Type determines the use of the order generated. This specifies the following, for example:
  • Which number range is provided

  • The criteria by which a routing is to be selected

  • How the order costs are to be calculated

The input serves only for specification purposes in the case of production orders.
  • The Goods Receipt determines which movement type is used to post the automatic goods receipt for materials produced in-house.
  • The Signal Lock in Minutes defines a locking period after triggering the Kanban signal. In this period, retriggering the Kanban signal does not lead to a change of status in the system. This reduces the risk of faulty input, particularly when using the bar code scanner.
  • You can also specify the use of packing instructions for Kanban container creation, and you can refine the consumption to cost center.
  • The Movement Type specifies the kind of movement with which the automatic goods receipt is posted for materials produced in-house.
  • You can specify whether you want to set off the kanban quantity against the planned orders created by MRP in the case of processing using planned or production orders.
You can also specify how the system is to behave if a kanban is cancelled, and a corresponding planned or production order is thereby to be deleted.
  • In processing using planned orders, you can specify that the system is to use a planned order from MRP when a kanban container is set to "Empty", and the kanban container has the same lot size as the planned order. In this case, no new planned order is created for the kanban container.
  • You can set the Consider Capacity indicator to specify that the system is to take account of the available capacity of the planning work center in the kanban calculation and calculate a trigger point for assigned materials to improve capacity utilization.
In the kanban calculation, the system performs the following additional steps:
  • The system calculates the capacity requirements for all control cycles that consume the available capacity of the same work center (planning work center).

  • The system checks whether the available capacity is sufficient to manufacture the planned production quantity.

  • The system calculates trigger points for individual control cycles or for certain groups of control cycles with the aim of reducing setup times.

It is possible to take capacities into account in all in-house production strategies that use planned or production orders as replenishment elements and that use one of the following control types:
  • Processing using planned orders and cost collectors

  • Processing using production orders

  • Processing using planned orders/preplanning with MRP

  • Processing using production orders/preplanning with MRP

  • The Print Kanban Form Template defines the content and layout of the kanban card.
  • The Print Control Cycle Form Template defines the content and layout of the printed kanban control cycle.

The SAP pre-delivered replenishment strategies start with PD, it is therefore recommended that you avoid using this naming pattern when you create your own replenishment strategies.

Define the replenishment strategies for in-house production.
