SAP E-Book

In this step, you define internal calculation keys. The internal calculation keys in the SAP system are independent of the chart of depreciation, and can be used anywhere within a system. The system uses internal calculation keys for the calculation of:

  • ordinary depreciation
  • special depreciation
  • interest
  • cut-off values

The internal calculation keys are part of the valuation keys (depreciation keys) . The valuation keys are dependent on the chart of depreciation. The internal calculation keys contain, in addition to various calculation parameters, the period control rules for the various transaction types.

Usually you do not need to define calculation keys. Use the standard calculation keys supplied in the system.

SAP provides calculation keys, some of which are country-specific (for example, declining balance 3 times).

  1. Define further calculation keys according to your requirements. Use the letters X, Y or Z as the first letter for your key. Specify the following:
  • the calculation of depreciation amounts (for example, base value)

  • special features for declining-balance calculation keys

  • determination of the end of depreciation

  • other features

  • the period control to be used (Function: Periods)

  • possible depreciation levels to be used (Function: Levels)

  • handling of multiple shift use (Menu under: Edit)

Do not change existing calculation keys. Instead, define new calculation keys as needed, and adapt them accordingly.
  1. Specify whether the calculation key should change over at some point to a different calculation key. In this case, enter a changeover method and a calculation key for depreciation calculation after the changeover. The changeover methods are fixed in the system. You can use any calculation key for the calculation of depreciation after the changeover.
Calculation keys for declining balance depreciation, for example, need to be defined with a changeover method. Otherwise the remaining book value would never reach zero.
  1. Enter a long text for each calculation key.
Include these newly defined calculation keys in a new depreciation key. You define these depreciation keys for the different types of depreciation in the step "Depreciation."

You can include the calculation key in a transport request in the overview screen of the transaction under Calculation key -> Transport. Note that the definition of the calculation key applies in all clients. Therefore, you only need to transport if you need transports between systems (for example, from a test system to a productive system).
