For certain types of valuation, it makes sense, or is legally required, that you end depreciation when a certain value is reached. You can enter an absolute scrap value in the asset master record. Or you can enter a percentage scrap value (cut-off value) in the calculation key.

In this step, you define the calculation key for automatically determining scrap values. For each calculation key, you can specify

  • the percentage of the depreciation base that should be used as the cut-off value percentage
  • whether the cut-off value percentage should be deducted at the start or the end of the calculation of depreciation
  • at what point in time the system should start calculating the validity period

You can enter several cut-off percentages for each scrap value key. You can define the cut-off percentages/levels per acquisition year, and the validity period can be of any length.

Start of the validity period: Capitalization date
Validity period: 5 years
Percentage: 5%

=> For assets, that are no more than 5 years old based on their capitalization date, the cut-off percentage rate of 5% is valid.

Be aware that you have to enter the validity period of the individual percentages or levels of a scrap value key in cumulative form (level 1: 1 year, level 2: 2 years => levels 1 and 2 each last one year).

SAP supplies standard scrap value keys. You have to revise the time specifications of the scrap value keys delivered by SAP.

  1. Define your own cut-off value key or scrap value key.
  • Specify whether the cut-off value/scrap value should be deducted from the base value for depreciation at the start of depreciation calculation, or if depreciation should stop when the scrap value is reached.

  • Specify the start of calculation of the validity time periods.

  • Define the validity periods and the percentage rates for the cut-off value/scrap value.

  1. Enter your cut-off value key in the definitions of the depreciation keys concerned.

You can include the scrap value key in a transport request in the overview screen of the transaction under Key -> Transport. Note that the definition of the scrap value key applies in all clients. Therefore, you only need to transport if you need transports between systems (for example, from a test system to a production system).
