In this IMG activity you define an overhead structure for accrual calculation.

The overhead structure controls the overhead calculation. Keys are determined for all controlling areas and, in a further step (separate for plan and actual accrual), are characterized at the controlling area level.

You must define the following keys in the structure, valid for all controlling areas in a client:

  • Calculation base
At the controlling area level you allocate cost elements whose overhead value is calculated to the key "Calculation base".
  • Overhead
You always define this key with respect to one or several calculation bases. Here you set the dependency with which the SAP system is to determine the overhead.
The dependency controls with which sequence and which combinations (controlling area, cost center, business area, and so on) overhead rates apply.
At the controlling area level you allocate percentages to the key "Overhead", used to derive the values of the accrual calculation from the values of the calculation base, dependent on posting periods and with respect to the defined dependency.
  • Credit key
When carrying out accrual calculation, the cost centers on which costs of the tracing factors have incurred are debited with the calculated overhead.
Via the credit keys, you determine the following at the controlling area level:
  • The cost element under which the overhead is posted (accrual cost element)

  • The CO object (cost center or order) to be credited with overhead

  • The validity period of the credit code ("valid to")

To change an existing overhead structure, you need authorization for changing structures in all controlling areas using this structure.

To create a new overhead structure, you need authorization for creating structures for the controlling area to which you want to assign the structure.

The standard system includes overhead structure SAP000.

Create an overhead structure or change an existing one.

  1. To create a new overhead structure, choose "Create".
  2. Enter the key and name and choose "Save".
  3. Go to the detail screen of your overhead structure.
  4. Specify a separate row number for each calculation base.
Enter a key for the calculation base.
If you specify a calculation base that does not exist yet, the SAP system will propose creating it automatically.
  1. Maintain the overhead.
  • Specify a separate row number for each overhead key.

  • Determine on which calculation bases the overhead will be calculated.

If the overhead key does not exist, you can have the SAP system create it automatically. Then enter the dependency with which the overhead rates are to be determined.
  • Maintain the credit key for every row with an overhead key. You can have the SAP system create this as well, if it does not exist yet.

  1. Assign the overhead structure to a controlling area.

To transport accrual calculation data, a separate function is available in Customizing under Controlling -> General Controlling.
