In addition to planning in controlling area, object, or transaction currencies, you can also plan in a freely selected currency (such as euros).

The currency can appear in additional columns or rows in the planning layout for cost element planning, or it can be made available for data entry.

You can use the following key figures:

  • Fixed plan costs in freely-selected currency
  • Variable plan costs in freely-selected currency
  • Total plan costs in freely-selected currency
  • Total actual costs in freely-selected currency

If the columns or rows already appear in the planning layout, you can change the settings in the initial screen for manual planning by choosing "Change settings -> Freely-selected currency".

  • If you use freely selected currencies, you can assign the following attributes:
  • Currency

  • Exchange rate type

  • Translation date

If you do not enter a currency, the R/3 System uses the controlling area currency.
If you do not enter an exchange rate type, the R/3 System uses the type and translation date based on the fiscal-year dependent entries in the version.
  • You can make default settings in Customizing for the planner profile.
  • You can also set the user parameters in the user master record. The parameter IDs are K92 for currency, K93 for exchange rate type, and K94 for the translation date.
  • The translation between the freely-selected currency and controlling area currency is independent of the "All currencies" indicator setting in the controlling area.
  • The freely-defined currency does not appear in the database during posting.
  • System performance is adversely affected by large numbers of currency translations.

If necessary, add the columns and rows for freely-defined currency to the planning layouts, or define corresponding new layouts:
Cost Center Accounting
Overhead Orders
Activity-Based Costing
Cost Object Accounting
Project Planning
