SAP E-Book

If you need to use customer defined and generated, language dependent EIS-specific objects in another language, you first have to translate them for the target language. With the translation tool described here, you can translate such objects.

All EIS objects in the standard system are translated by SAP and cannot be translated with this tool for a different language.

At the initial screen, you enter the following information:

  1. Source language
  2. Target language
  3. Translation object
  4. Search criteria

By selecting execute you start a search for all translation-relevant texts. Depending on the search criteria, the system searches only for the texts of the selected object or subobjects assigned to this object. For an aspect, the system searches either for all texts of the aspect, or for the texts of the key figures, characteristics, and characteristic values as well.

The search procedure may take a while, since the system may have to search for texts in all EIS objects.

On the next screen, a list of the object classes found is displayed. These object classes are denoted as follows:

  1. Untranslated - all objects in this class are untranslated
  2. Partially translated - some objects in this class are translated
  3. Translated - all objects in this class are translated

Additionally, the translated object classes are highlighted.

In this screen you select the object classes that you want to edit. Afterwards, you go to the display of the individual objects using the function Object list.

In the object list you see all objects of the object classes you selected displayed in three columns. They have the following meanings:

  1. Object class of the object
  2. Name of the object
  3. Text of the object in the source language (20 characters)
  4. Text of the object in the target language (20 characters)

If an object is not translated, the target text is empty. Translated objects are highlighted.

Select the objects that you want to edit. If you select previously translated objects as to be edited, you can change the target texts.

Select a type of editing from the two available types.

  1. Translation: In a short text editor, you can translate all texts that have been selected for translation.
  2. Quick translation: The system tries to find the text to be translated in the SAP proposal database. If no translation is found, the text of the source language is copied to the target language. Quick translation only works for objects that have not been translated.

Only customer defined or generated, EIS-specific objects can be translated. If texts that are normally translated by SAP are missing, they can only be added by importing the language into the system, or by translating them with the SAP translation tool Tools -> ABAP/4 Workbench -> Utilities -> Translation -> Short/long texts.
