In this activity, you can define the bar code profile that specifies how a bar code is constructed.

You want the Serialized Shipping Container Code (SSCC), EAN/UPC code, material quantity and the expiration date to appear as a bar code on an EAN128 label. The label is too narrow for the information to fit in one line, so the data must be split up into two lines.

The SSCC should be the only thing in the second line so that it is easier to find. The other information fits in the first line.

First, give this profile a unique name. Then, in line one, assign AI 02 (EAN) to item 1, AI 37 (quantity) to item 2 and AI 15 (expiration date) to item 3. In line two, assign only AI 00 (SSCC) to item 1.

This profile then results in the following bar code, only the text of which appears below:

(02) 400638105279 (37) 00000250 (15) 991231

(00) 331084421026048468

The data indicators / Application Identifiers (AI) used in the profile must be maintained tn the bar code specification.

The standard profile in the system, SSCC00, contains only the SSCC.

The EAN128 standard recommends that the SSCC appear in the last part of the bar code.

You can achieve more compact bar codes if you place AIs with variable content length at the end of the bar code. Data that has non-numeric contents needs twice as much space (batch numbers, for example).

It is much easier to insert other AIs if you use item numbers in steps (of two or five, for example) rather than sequential item numbers.

First, enter a unique profile number and short description. Then, enter which bar code type this profile is defined for.

Next, enter the necessary data identifier / Application Identifier (AI) for the items in each bar code line provided for this profile.
