A handling unit is a technical system reflection of a physical object. For this reason, it is logical to assign each handling unit a unique number.
A number range object can guarantee that all number assignments are unique within one client. Unique number assignment is only possible throughout the entire system via assignment of a SSCC18.

In this activity, you define number assignment per packaging material type.

If you use various packaging material types, but only within your plant, identification assignment via number range interval should be sufficient.

If the packaging materials of these packaging material types are also shipped to customers, number assignment via a SSCC18 is the better choice.

If you use the Warehouse Management system, please note that for the conversion of the storage unit number, the length of the LE number must be equal to or greater than the length of the numbers that can be assigned via handling-unit number assignment.

For example, if you want to make a SSCC18 number assignment possible, the LE number must be at least 18 characters long. If you use a number range interval that is limited to 10 characters, a 10-character LE number would be sufficient.

Maintain the HU type for the SSCC18 number assignment for each packaging material type, even if automatic number assignment occurs via a number range interval.

Define the type of the number assignment, the number range interval for internal and external number assignment and the HU type for SSCC18 generation.

If the HU type is maintained for SSCC18 generation, an SSCC18 can be generated at any time, regardless of how the number assignment is set.
