In this IMG activity, you define staging areas.

When defining staging areas, you can do the following:

  • Assign a door to each staging area (optional)
  • Assign goods receipt and/or goods issue functionality to each staging area. This determines whether a particular staging area can be scheduled for, or be the destination of a yard activity for, a vehicle assigned to an inbound/outbound document (mandatory).
If you do not assign goods receipt and/or goods issue functionality to a staging area, the staging area cannot be used.
  • Define the physical location type of the staging area. This location type can subsequently be used to determine which vehicle type groups (and in which combinations and quantities) can be located at the door at the same time (optional).
  • Assign a Global Location Number (GLN) to the staging area (optional)
  • Assign the staging area to a yard location group (optional)

You have defined the following:

If you have not yet defined staging areas in Customizing for Logistics Execution -> Warehouse Management -> Master Data -> Define Material Staging Areas, define the staging areas in the current IMG activity only since it contains additional fields. Otherwise, the previously defined staging areas will appear in this IMG activity table, and you will have to make the additional settings (such as location type and GLN).

Define each staging area of your warehouse:

  1. Enter the warehouse number.
  2. Enter an identifier for the staging area.
  3. If you have already defined doors in Customizing for Logistics Execution -> Warehouse Management -> Master Data -> Define Doors, you can assign a door to the staging area. Otherwise, first define doors in IMG activity Define Doors and then assign it to the staging area in this IMG activity.
  4. If you want to enable the staging area to be scheduled for vehicles assigned to outbound documents, or enable it to be the destination of a yard activity for an outbound vehicle, select GI ind.
  5. If you want to enable the door to be scheduled for vehicles assigned to inbound documents, or enable it to be the destination of a yard activity for an inbound vehicle, select GR ind.
  6. If you want the capacity of the staging area to be limited in terms of quantities of vehicle type groups, choose the staging area's location type. You can subsequently define a relationship between the location type and vehicle type groups in IMG activity Define Location Type - Vehicle Type Group Relationships.
  7. Enter the GLN, if any, of the staging area.
  8. If you want to assign the staging area to a yard location group:
    1. Ensure that you have defined staging area location groups in IMG activity Define Yard Location Groups.
    2. Return to this activity and enter the location group in the Loc. Group field.

In this activity, you can assign one door to more than one staging area.

In IMG activity Define Doors, you can assign one staging area to more than one door.
