This activity enables you to define the function codes that you require for your application scenario. That is, you can define function codes in addition to those that already exist. The second step within this activity enables you to change the description of existing function codes to meet customer-specific requirements.

  1. The Define Function Codes for Manager's Desktop step enables you to define function codes required for your application scenario in addition to those that already exist.
The corresponding table is not scenario-specific, and therefore includes all of the functions to be used.
The Define Structure of Function Codes step is used to arrange some of these functions in a hierarchical structure for a specific application scenario in Manager's Desktop.
Function codes are keys used to uniquely identify the functions (start report, start function module, start transaction, follow URL, display Workflow inbox) that can be selected by the user. In addition, some function codes are required for grouping functions together and do not trigger system activities.
Therefore, function codes provide the nodes in the function tree on the left of the screen with unique technical names.
Enter the following settings:
  1. In the Function code field, enter the name of the required function code.
  2. In the Text field, enter a name for the function code that subsequently appears in your menu (for example, Required Positions for the HEADCOUNT function code).
  3. In the Type field, enter the function code type. This determines whether a report (REPO), function module (FUNC), transaction code (TCOD), or Internet page (URL) is accessed, and whether the function code is concerned with special reports for Cost Planning (COPL), or special CO reports (RWRP), or the Workflow inbox (INBX). The URLW type is the URL of an HTML page for which no navigation pushbuttons should be displayed (for Employee Self-Service, for example).
The HOME and NODE function code types, however, indicate nodes in the tree that cannot be selected and are merely used to determine the structure of the function tree. The user can recognize these nodes by their explanatory texts, which are not underlined. Nodes to which other types are assigned can be selected by the user by clicking on them. This triggers a system activity.
  1. The Org. structure based indicator is set for all of the function codes that are applied to organizational objects. If this indicator is flagged for at least one executable node of a theme category, choosing the appropriate pushbutton causes parts of the organizational structure to be displayed immediately on the right side of the screen. However, if this indicator has not been set for any of the executable nodes, choosing the appropriate theme category immediately starts the first function.
If a theme category only contains URLs, for example, accessing this category causes the system to immediately display the HTML page related to the first URL.
  1. If you want the function to be available for specific object types only, set the Object type specific indicator. Specify the corresponding object types in the Define Object Type-Specific Function Codes step.
By specifying allowed object types, you can prevent functions from receiving disallowed objects as an entry.
  1. In the Transaction code, Function module, and Program name fields, enter the corresponding name of the above function code type. In the WEB address (URL) field, enter the Internet address or file name of the function code type flagged above as URL or HOME.
  • The Change Description of Function Codes step enables you to change the description of existing function codes. The changed text is then written to the function tree on the left of the screen.
  • Further notes

    • If a variant has been entered in the Variant name field on the detail screen, it is used when reports are started for functions of type REPO (reports). This enables you to set parameters on report selection screens. This is the only way of setting specific parameters for a particular report because selection screens are never displayed for a report that is started using an application based on Manager's Desktop.
    • If the user changes (reorganizes) the organizational plan by using the drag and drop function in the structure tree on the right of the screen, and if persons are affected by this change, the user must choose an action (for staff reassignments or part time/full time, for example). To ensure an action can be triggered by using the drag and drop function in the structure tree, you must flag the action's Org. Management field in table T530_all.
    • Compensation Management functions are integrated dynamically in the function tree. Module RH_MWB_COMP_FCODES_READ selects function codes so that all entries in table T71C7 whose value in the CPROC field matches the prefix written to the module are taken into account.

The CPROC field in table T71C7 stands for an adjustment reason. By performing the Define Adjustment Reasons step, you can define adjustment reasons whose assigned adjustment types are then displayed in Manager's Desktop as a function that can be selected. The function codes are taken from the prefix (that is, the adjustment reason) and the contents of the CPLAN field in table T71C7, which describes the adjustment type.

The current prefix is 99. The RH_MWB_COMP_FCODE_EXECUTE module is used to start all of these function codes.
