Returns processes are used to perform actions or tasks for items in a returns document. Frequently they are used to post documents following the creation and delivery of a returns item. These are referred to as subsequent documents.

Each process is associated with a function that is used to perform the action. Any documents created by the process are linked to the returns item using the Remote Logistics Management object flow index. Alternatively, documents may be posted independently of the returns transaction and then later linked to one or more returns items.

In addition to the general processes described above, which are optional, material returns items will always be used to create a delivery to control transport to the base plant. Sometimes, the delivery will be posted with reference to a transport order, and sometimes without.

In this step, each returns document type is assigned to the returns processes that will be used to prepare the transport orders and/or deliveries mentioned above. These processes will not usually be used during normal subsequent processing, and so will usually be flagged as inactive.
