You can use the milestone function Start workflow task for milestones in the network to start your own

  • standard tasks
  • tasks
  • workflow tasks

depending on status changes in the activity to which the milestone is assigned. You can use data from the network in the workflow task.

Workflow tasks (client-specific) and standard tasks (cross-client) will be referred to in this section simply as "tasks" and always refer to a method of a workflow object.

You can only use tasks which refer to:

  • object type "BUS2002" or "AFVC_NETW" or
  • a copy of these object types that is delegated to "BUS2002" or "AFVC_NETW" in Customizing

You can use tasks to define your own workflow process.

Make sure you only use workflow tasks which meet the criteria described above for all tasks you want to have triggered using the milestone function.

Technically speaking, a task is triggered when the event "STARTED" for object "MLST_NETW" is activated in workflow.

The task you entered as a parameter for a milestone function passed on as the "consumer" of the event. In the data container of the event, the following parameters are passed on:

  • NETWORK -> for workflow object BUS2002
  • ACTIVITY -> for workflow object AFVC_NETW

The parameters contain:

  • key fields for the network and activity with which the milestone is assigned, or by which the event is triggered
  • a reference to object types "BUS2002" and "AFVC_NETW"
The reference is also the reason for limiting the useable tasks to only those belonging to the above-mentioned objects.

To pass on the information from event "STARTED" to the workflow or task to be activated, you must first define event "STARTED" as a triggering event for the task and also define the data flow.

The parameters from the data container of the event must be passed on to the task parameters.

Make sure when defining a workflow task, that the parameters in the process chain are passed on to the individual tasks.

SAP has predefined the standard task 00200040 "Edit_Network" for you.

You can define your own tasks by using the methods of the object types "BUS2002" and "AFVC_NETW". If you require additional functionality, you can also create your own methods.

The creation of methods for the object types "BUS2002" and "AFVC_NETW" provided by SAP is considered a modification of the SAP system. Therefore, you should make a copy of the object involved following your own naming conventions and delegate it via the original object. If you create an object in this manner, you can create as many methods as you like. If you expand the program coding of the method to include key fields in the network or activity, you can read this data from the database and use it further.

Define workflow task and standard tasks. To do this, choose Tools -> Business Workflow.
