Capacity planning is carried out in Repetitive Manufacturing using the planning table. Here, you can display detailed and rate-based capacity requirements.

To be able to display capacity requirements for run schedule quantities and planned orders in the planning table, you must first make sure that the following prerequisites have been fulfilled:

  1. If you want to carry out capacity planning at a rate-base level, you must enter a routing in the production version in the rate-based planning row. This is usually a rate routing. However, you can also choose any tast list type available. If you want to carry out capacity planning at a detailed level, you must enter a routing in the production version in the detailed planning row.
  2. In the production version, you must enter a work center of an operation from the above mentioned routing as the production line. You usually enter a work center of the category, "production line". However, you can also choose a work center of a different category, if necessary.
  3. In Customizing for Capacity Planning, you must define whether capacity planning for the run schedule quantities (planned orders with order type PE) is to be carried out as rate-based planning or as detailed planning. You do this under Operations -> Scheduling -> Define scheduling levels. You must also select the following fields:
  • Create capacity requirements

  • Terminbestimmung

If, in the planning table, you also want to carry out capacity planning for planned orders of the order type LA and for production orders, create entries for the appropriate scheduling levels and select the above mentioned fields.
  1. You define the level at which the system is to plan in the planning table in the initial screen of the planning table. You can also save this setting per user.

In Repetitive Manufacturing, you have two options for carrying out capacity leveling:

  • In the planning table.
  • Simultaneously in the planning table and in the capacity planning table which you can access from the planning table.
Changes you make in the capacity planning table are immediately visible in the REM planning table and vice versa.

Capacity profiles control exactly how the capacity data in the planning table is displayed and which strategy is used in the capacity planning table to dispatch operations. You maintain these profiles in Customizing for Capacity Planning under capacity leveling. Here, you can maintain total profiles that consist of individual profiles. In the standard system, a profile exists for the planning table (SAPREMG001) and for processing both planning tables simultaneously.

If you want to define your own profiles, you can enter a profile in the user master record under the parameter ID KP1. The system then uses this profile instead of the standard profile for the planning table. If you save a profile under parameter ID KP2, the system then uses this profile when processing both planning tables simultaneously.

When creating your own profile for planning both tables simultaneously, note that a periodic and a time continuous layour is allowed for the assigne control profile. You define this layout by setting the indicator layout category 3 in the control profile.

You can refer to the Implementation Guide for Capacity Planning to find out which data is saved in the profiles. Note that you should only make changes to profiles in special circumstances. Necessary changes may include:

  • Change time period for capacity planning
  • Change dispatching strategy for capacity planning table
  • Change display and dimensions of the graphic symbols

In the capacity planning table, the system splits the screen into two sections. In the upper section of the screen, the system displays all dispatched planned orders and production orders per production line and capacity category. In the lower section of the screen, the system displays all the capacity requirements for the materials that can be produced on the selected lines (this display includes the dispatched and the non-dispatched orders). You cannot change this split display.
