You can use application maintenance to define the order of the calls from the SAP System to a partner application for processing a particular function. The storage system supplier normally performs this.

Application maintenance is only necessary if the front end components are called using OLE automation 2.0 (if you have selected the communication type OPEN in log maintenance).

  • To create a new application, choose Application -> Create.
Other options available for an existing application:
  • Change

  • Delete

  • Enter a name and choose Back.
This name must be the same as in the protocol.
The new application appears in the list of applications.
  • Position the cursor on your new application and choose Edit -> Change.
The new application with all available functions is displayed.
  • Position the cursor on the required function and choose Edit -> Select.
You branch to an administration dialog box for the application concerned.
  • Define:
  • Application name

The application name is described in the documentation for the application to be addressed.
  • Type of control command

You can control applications by calling object methods, by setting object characteristics, or by retrieving object characteristics.
For details of the sequence and syntax for control command calls, see the documentation for the application concerned. The possible settings are:
M:,,Call an object method
S:,,Set an object characteristic
G:,,Retrieve an object characteristic
  • Syntax of control command

You can control applications by:
-,,Calling object methods
-,,Setting object characteristics
-,,Retrieving object characteristics
For details of the sequence and syntax of control command calls, see the documentation for the application concerned.
You can define several commands. They are performed one after the other.
  • If necessary, activate the flag Delete generated object after call
Activate the flag if you want the object generated to be deleted after processing.
Deactivate the flag if you want the object generated to continue to exist and be used in the next function after processing.
  • Choose Back to confirm.
  • Execute the preceeding steps for each function required.

For more information on application maintenance, see the SAP Library under SAP Web Application Server → Basis Services → ArchiveLink → Customizing Front End Communication → Application Maintenance.
